VOLUNTEERING OPPORTUNITIES

The HCES PTA depends on every parent's involvement in the life of the school in some form or another.  We have opportunities, large and small, that parents can get involved with, depending on interests, skills and availability.  Whether you're looking to contribute from the comfort of your own home or during an unexpected break in your workday, or if you're eager to meet other parents in the community and volunteer as part of a team, there are many ways for you to contribute!  Please see below for some immediate volunteer needs and more information about each event.  For more information, email us at volunteer@hcespta.org.

FALL EVENTS

Family Movie Night (September) - A Hunter tradition!  A fun, community-building event for next year, which takes place in the courtyard in mid - late September.

Picture Day (November) - Volunteers are needed each year to help keep the kids on task, smooth a stray hair, or put on a silly face to get smile!

Admissions Open Houses (October/November) -   Volunteers are needed each Fall to accompany an HCES student "guide" as potential kindergarten families visit our school. Volunteers will help with checking in prospective parents, circulating parents through their self-guided tour of the school, and of course, answering questions. This is an especially good opportunity for working parents or others who are unable to volunteer during the school day. Maps of HCES are provided, and no experience is necessary.

Halloween Hop (October) -

Book Fair (December) - Volunteers are needed to assist with setup and breakdown, as well as during the week-long sale, which typically take place after Thanksgiving..

WINTER EVENTS

Ice Skating Party (January) - Typically takes place at Lasker Rink.  Volunteers are needed to help with check-in.

Talent Show (Winter/Spring) - Volunteers (no experience required!) are needed for rehearsals, as well as for the day of the show (Sunday, 3/8/15), to shuttle students, help with microphones, etc.  Also need volunteers for the “after party”, which involves purchasing refreshments, setting up, serving and/or cleaning up.

SPRING EVENTS

Spring Benefit (year-round, with a focus in the Spring) - The HCES PTA’s largest fundraiser, volunteers are needed to help with myriad tasks, including: data entry; graphic design; catalog design; online auctions; setup and cleanup at the event; and much, much more! If you have a skill, we can find a way to use it!

Spring Carnival (Spring) - Another big fundraiser that requires a large number of volunteers, particularly on the day of the event, which is set for Saturday, 5/16/15.  Blocking off the street, setting up, manning tables, break-down and clean-up ... there's a job for you!

End-of-year Picnic (Spring) -  Volunteers are needed to plan and organize this annual event.

YEAR ROUND NEEDS

PTA Meetings (year-round) - A volunteer is needed to order/procure refreshments for the monthly morning meetings, as well as coordinate set-up and clean-up.

Mosaic (year-round) - This HCCS committee is dedicated to fostering diversity in the Hunter community.  Monthly meetings are open to all, and include discussions of potential and planned events that would require volunteers.

Merchandise (year-round) - A table is set up at many school events, and always requires volunteers.
